BACKGROUND
I come from a very humble family of nine children, in which my parents are divorced. We grew up by the help of only our mother, which is a peasant. After the divorce, our father married another woman, and neglected us. Everything was depending on my mother; both food and fees. My mother cultivates on the small piece of land that we have, and sells the crops to earn a living. That's how she could raise money to pay the fees for my siblings, which are still in primary level. I studied and managed to finish senior six by the help of bursaries; they could help me get accepted in schools because of my good performance. I joined university with the help of my uncle and aunt, but after the first semester, my uncle was in an accident and he could thereafter not pay my tuition anymore, since he was no longer working. The little money my aunt was earning was needed to support her family and look after my uncle as well.
WHY
I chose petroleum engineering and environmental management because I look forward to getting jobs quickly, more quick than in any other field. Secondly, it is highly paid, so I decided to join this field in order to earn more money to help my siblings, as our we come from a background of poverty. When I finalize my program, i will be able to educate people about the dangers of destruction on the environment, how we can conserve it, and about the effects of hydrocarbons in the environment. Again, I will be able to contribute to the development of the country as a worker - not only national wide, but also international wide since this program is both national and international. My dream job is to become a petroleum engineer. I feel like I should be a petroleum engineer and I hope to be one in the future, since I am doing my bachelor of science in petroleum engineering and environmental management. A petroleum engineer aims at discovering, exploring and exploiting hydrocarbons; especially oil and gas deposits.
INTERESTS
I like doing community outreach by visiting, praying and helping the sick with the little that we have. I also like reading novels that are full of inspiration. I like being in company with friends since they help me to get out of boredom and avoid overthinking.
